AS THOUSANDS of Barbadians headed to Christmas in the Park to show off their finest this morning, an unfortunate few were wondering where their next meal was coming from.
Luckily for them, Carmily Mathurin, a philanthropist, was on hand to give them a meal just north of Queens Park, The City.
Mathurin, who hands out meals to the needy and homeless on Sundays, decided to draw up the date because it was Christmas Day.
“Instead of going to enjoy ourselves in the park, we decided to feed them today,” she told photojournalist Lennox Devonish.
“We realise that God gave us health and strength that we can feed these people who are hopeless and helpless.”
Shirland Layne one of those who got a meal was very appreciative of Mathurin’s outreach.
“Many days I do not have anything to eat. I don’t know about others . . . but I am thankful that God can be so good to send his Son to let her bring something that we should eat and we should be grateful,” said a Layne as water ran down his cheeks. (JS)
