A MEETING CALLED by the Ministry of Education for Friday may be too late to avoid disruption of the start of school next week.

President of the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT), Pedro Shepherd, told the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday that despite the proposed 10 a.m. meeting, today’s deadline for a definitive position on the issues at Parkinson Memorial and Alma Parris secondary schools, and for the Ministry of the Civil Service to act on the outstanding appointments to the teaching service, is still “very much in effect”.

And what is more, the BUT may very well have added ammunition if its sister union, the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU), accepts the invitation to join forces to “wrestle the beast”.

Please read the full story in today’s Midweek Nation, or in the eNATION edition.
