AS BARBADIANS awoke to the dawning of a new year, they were also greeted with the news of the island’s first murder.

The killing took place within a family environment where Jason Carter, 31, was shot in the face by a relative at about 10:30 a.m. at Vauxhall No. 1, Christ Church.

When a WEEKEND NATION team visited the Queen Elizabeth Hospital hours after the shooting yesterday, family members who had gathered outside the Accident & Emergency Department could not contain their grief as they searched their minds for a reason behind the incident.

rose-ann-carter-and-rasheda-coxRose-Ann Carter, the victim’s cousin, said it was a hard blow to the family.

Trying to compose herself, she said they just wanted to head home and deal with her family especially Jason’s mother, a wheelchair user, who could not come to the hospital. She said the thought of having to break the news to the mother of Jason’s one-year-old son was also painful for the family. (LK)
