I am sure that every Bajan girl or woman would tell you that they heard those words many times from their mother or granny.
And the reason why the old folks preached this was to safeguard against the girl falling down in bad feels anywhere, and while people trying to revive her, they discover she was wearing some kinda stretch out, dingy looking, holey panty, because such a sight would be an embarrassment for the whole family, ’cause when the neighbours ready they would cuss everybody in the house ’bout that holey panty.
Anyhow, nowadays, far from wearing a nice panty, many women don’t wear none at all. And, yes, ladies, it is your right to wear or don’t wear panties or, as my grandmother would call them, bloomers or trousers.
But if you decide not to wear bloomers, and you put on a short dress and end up in a fete dancing and while dancing your dress rides up, chances are “de thing” gine be exposed, and when I say de thing you should know what I mean.
Now there was a time, 20 years ago or so, that if something like that happened and de thing was exposed, people might stare or laugh or some might go over to the woman and tell her that they could see de thing.
But not now, everybody got camera phones, so from the time you dancing and de thing peep out for everybody to see, well somebody gine take a picture of de thing. And let me tell you, that photo of you dancing with de thing exposed gine end up on the Internet for the whole world to see, as was the case with a young lady last week.
She was at an event dancing bloomerless, the dress rode up, de thing was exposed, and someone took a picture of her, zoomed in on de thing and posted it on the Internet.
Well, some people criticised the young lady for not having on bloomers, and some criticised the person who took the photo and placed it on the Internet.
I ain’t talk to the young girl, so I ain’t sure if she worried or not, but I know many women don’t wear bloomers for a number of reasons. For some it is all about comfort, for others it is a health issue, while for a few, when they dress, they don’t want any lines from the underwear to be showing.
But here is my two cents worth. Ladies, if you are going to venture outdoors without bloomers, then you have to be very careful or run the risk of waking up and seeing de thing – your thing – on the Internet.
And you don’t wanta be turning up for work and see the guys by the water cooler with iPads looking at and discussing your thing, do you?
So if you going out without bloomers, avoid short clothing and beware of your surroundings. Watch how you are getting out of the car. I don’t know if you ladies know, but sometimes, depending on how you exit a vehicle, you does show a li’l bloomers, and if you ain’t got on no bloomers, well you gine end up exposing de thing.
Also, sit down decent, and if you gine dance be very careful, watch how you are bending down, pooching back and lifting up your leg, otherwise people gine see de thing, and remember, nowadays everybody got a camera. See ya.
