ACTING NIGERIAN High Commissioner to Trinidad Ganiyu Adeyemi was represented at this morning’s Press conference hosted by spokespeople for the 90 Nigerian students in Barbados.
Nigerian Esther Obiora-Arthur attended the event at the Clement Payne Center to keep an eye on the discussions about the living conditions at Casa Grande Hotel.
The attorney-at-law explained that she had been in contact with the High Commissioner and had sent him copies of the media reports highlighting the situation involving the students who are in Barbados to attend the Barbados Community College.
“He called me this morning and he expressed his frustration because he’s been making efforts to send someone but because of diplomatic protocol he can’t just send anyone so he asked me to come and attend and keep a watch and brief for him,” said Obiora-Arthur who is married to a Barbadian.
She also addressed the Press conference, pointing out that she was “emotionally incensed” at what the students had been going through and how they had been treated.
“It is the lack of respect – that is the issue right now. What [organizer] Ms Donna St Hill needs to understand is that she is dealing with human beings that need to be respected,” she said, noting that she would be reporting back to the High Commissioner the reports made by the students at the Press conference.
