Classy half-centuries by captain Kevin Stoute and Shamarh Brooks led Barbados Pride to a two-wicket victory under the Duckworth/Lewis Method with four balls to spare over Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) at the 3 Ws Oval on Thursday night.

This day and night match was arranged as both teams finalised preparations for the WICB Nagico Super50 tournament in Trinidad and Tobago next Thursday, in which, ironically, they will oppose each other in the first match at Couva.

CCC batted first and after two interruptions for rain in their innings, with the final one bringing the innings to a premature close, compiled 177 for three from 43.5 overs. Defending Nagico Super50 champions Barbados Pride, set a revised target of 214 runs in 43 overs, won by two wickets in the final over.

Stoute and Brooks came together in match-winning stand of 139 for the fourth wicket after the students opening seamers had reduced Barbados Pride to 35 for three in the eighth over.

Stoute’s 75 from 78 balls with eight fours and two sixes and Brooks’ 56 with six fours suggested they would take Barbados Pride to an easy victory. But veteran off-spinner Ryan Austin (3-35) and the return of Christopher Powell (3-22) triggered a middle and lower order collapse.
