CABLE & WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS (CWC) is answering the call for more investment in Barbados.

Even as the company, which trades here as LIME, awaits local regulatory approval of its proposed US$3 billion acquisition of Columbus International Inc., chief executive officer (CEO) Phil Bentley revealed it is planning to spend another $100 million on its Barbados network.

He called it an “enormous commitment” and said Barbados would also get a share of the $800 million the company plans to spend on broadband expansion in the Caribbean.

Responding to questions posed by the DAILY NATION, Bentley said: “In Barbados we have committed to investing another US$50 million in the network here – that’s an enormous commitment, which translated to the equivalent of US$350 for each Bajan. We are pledging broadband access to all – that means affordable access for low-income households.”
