HOLD ON to your chair.
This was the message which Prime Minister Freundel Stuart had for embattled Speaker of the House of Assembly Michael Carrington yesterday as the Opposition sought to unseat him.
But Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley said her team would be boycotting any House of Assembly session over which Carrington presided.
“The Opposition will turn up for work every time Parliament is called. We will be in the precincts. But we will not sit in the Chamber as long as the Speaker is there, until this matter is called,” she told reporters.
Earlier, Stuart had spoken out in support of Carrington after a verbal clash between the Speaker and Mottley, rejecting calls for the Queen’s Counsel and St Michael West MP to vacate the chair until Parliament’s Committee of Privileges rules on a matter which the Opposition argued had brought his right to remain Speaker into question.
