The natural gas shortage has not only taken a toll on hotels and restaurants, but now a major manufacturer says it threatens to take a big bite of out its business as well as its ability to earn valuable foreign exchange.
WIBISCO, manufacturers of the very popular Eclipse and Sodabix biscuits as well as a range of sweet biscuits, says the problem has become so acute that it is losing about 50 per cent of production capacity, threatening its ability to meet the demands of overseas clients.
The company, which employs 250 people, exports as much as 65 per cent of what it produces.
“The situation with the natural gas supply is severely impacting our business,” general manager Adrian Padmore told the DAILY NATION, as he gave an update on the challenges the Gills Road, St Michael business had been grappling with and which he first publicly highlighted last month.
