BLP not happy with councils

BARBADIANS NEED TO have better accountability of the funds injected into the Constituency Councils.

That is the view of the Opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP), which continues
to bash several aspects of the councils established by the ruling Democratic Labour Party (DLP) in 2009.

By staging a walk-out of last Tuesday’s sitting of the House of the Assembly, the Opposition forfeited their right to respond to the proposed amendments to the Constituency Councils Act, but Member of Parliament for St Thomas, Cynthia Forde, spoke on behalf of the BLP at a Press conference at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition yesterday.

Noting that the BLP has always been opposed to the Constituency Councils, Forde insisted that the councils have been mismanaged over the years, and that they do not meet the model approved by Cabinet in 2008. In fact, she said there is no difference in community life with the establishment of the councils. (YB)
