BARBADOS WAS THE 28th most miserable nation in the world last year, according to new analysis published by the United States-based think tank, Cato Institute.

The country was similarly ranked in 2013.

The ignominious title for the most miserable English-speaking country in the Caribbean goes again to Jamaica which is ranked ninth. In 2013 it was ranked fifth.

Suriname at 43 and Trinidad and Tobago at 65 are the only other Caricom countries named in the 2014 misery rankings.

The former was not among the 89 nations in the 2013 index, while the twin island republic dropped 22 places to record an improved ranking. (SP)
