A BARBADIAN COUPLE is facing the possibility of lengthy prison sentences in neighbouring St Lucia.

The two – 29-year-old Ritchie Bonnet and travel companion Maria Shepherd, 30 – were arrested as they attempted to board a LIAT flight to Barbados last week with a total of 2.8 kilos of cocaine between the two of them.

The two Barbadian nationals made their first court appearance last Friday and St Lucian police said the illegal drugs had a street value of EC$84 000.

Bonnet pleaded guilty to three charges of possession of controlled drugs, intent to supply and attempting to export controlled drugs.

Shepherd, on the other hand, pleaded guilty to possession of controlled drugs but not guilty to the other two charges of intent to supply and attempting to export controlled drugs.

The two were remanded into custody and are expected to return to court for sentencing on Thursday. (GE/Helen Television System)
