AN ATTEMPTED ROBBERY has left a number of people shaken and one man with a gunshot wound to his right arm.
For the third time in five years, Bayville minimart was the target of a masked and armed man. Unlike the other times, however, shopkeeper John Drayton said nothing was taken.
“I was outside talking to a few friends and then came back inside to let my daughter know I was ready to close. I heard something like a gunshot and I went to the door to peep and a guy wearing a mask came round the corner and pulled the door.
“My daughter screamed and when he looked around, I went into the storeroom in the back, contemplating how sudden this thing happen. I heard talking coming from upstairs in the living room and I saw my daughter and a helper had run upstairs and closed the door behind them,” he said.
The gunshot Drayton heard struck Robert Holder in the right arm. He was outside the shop with some other men at the time. Holder said all he heard was a shot and then felt a burning in his hand. (CA)
