QEH boss: Shift in health care

THERE IS A RISING disconnect worldwide between what is good for the health-care system and what is good for patients, said chief executive officer of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Dr Dexter James.

And this “conundrum” will result in a disadvantageous situation for all involved, he said in an address to the Barbados Nurses Association at Hilton Barbados on Wednesday.

James said the QEH was not exempt from this growing change and was now being widely seen as a curative and not a preventative institution.

“Health-care delivery globally is unsustainable; what is good for the patient is not good for the doctor or the hospital and unless there is an alignment between the goals of the patient and the hospital solving issues of cost and access, there will continue to be a major disconnect. (CA)
