BARBADOS’ top surfers put on an impressive display when the Barbados Surfing Association held the first Surfer Of The Year (SOTY) contest at Long Beach last Saturday.
In very contestable three- to four-foot waves, Bruce Mackie won the premiere Men’s Open division from younger brother Dane Mackie, while Zander Venezia was third and Evan Moll fourth.
Dane Mackie avenged the loss to his older brother by taking the top spot in the Under-18 Boys’ division with his smooth, radical surfing, with an ever improving Dylan Downie taking the second spot. Ché Allan was third and Andrew Rose fourth.
