BDF, UWI in close battle

GOALS STILL win football matches.

Defending champions Barbados Defence Force (BDF) realised that maxim is still apt yesterday evening, as they required a late penalty to earn a 1-1 draw with newcomers, University of the West Indies (UWI) in the opening game of the Digicel Premier League season.

UWI, making their debut in top-flight football, showcased a number of highly regarded additions, including Barbados captain Mario Harte and midfielder Jomo Harris, the hero of Barbados’ 2-2 draw with Guyana in last Sunday’s friendly international.

They gave a favourable impression and actually took the lead in the 62nd minute.
