KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Wavell Hinds, who ignored calls to step down at the height of an impasse with the West Indies cricket team late last year, has been re-elected as president of the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA).

Hinds, a former West Indies cricketer, was re-elected unopposed at WIPA’s annual general meeting at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jamaica on Monday.

He was involved in a bitter row with former West Indies One Day International captain Dwayne Bravo, who raised concern over his role in a signed collective bargaining agreement between WIPA and the West Indies Cricket Board.

The dispute over the agreement led to the controversial decision by West Indies to cut short their tour of India.

The new WIPA vice-president is Nixon McLean, whose position was previously honorary treasurer, a release from WIPA said yesterday.

Wayne Lewis retained his position as honorary secretary. The new honorary treasurer is former West Indies captain and wicketkeeper Ridley Jacobs, and the newly elected assistant honorary secretary is Windward Islands Volcanoes captain Liam Sebastien.
