Jones’ teamwork plea

MINISTER OF EDUCATION Ronald Jones has broken his silence somewhat on the current impasse between his ministry and the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT), which saw teachers from Alma Parris and Parkinson Memorial secondary schools meeting at the union’s headquarters for four consecutive days last week.

Speaking at the launch of an Enhancing Teacher Effectiveness programme at Hilton Barbados yesterday, Jones said the teacher was a partner in the classroom and with the professional leader of the school, and if they didn’t work together along with parental support, the hundreds of millions of dollars that were invested in education “will not prove in fact efficient or effective”.
