THE DEVELOPMENT of medical services in Barbados will be explored through an eight part lecture series organised by the Barbados Museum and Historical Society and the University of the West Indies’ Department of History and Philosophy.

The series themed Of Distempers, Diagnoses, and Development; The Provision of Medical Services in Barbados will start on Wednesday March 18 and continue every Wednesday night at the Queens Park Steel Shed.

The final night will be a panel discussion.

Lecture series coordinator Dr Tara Inniss said on the eve of the 50th year of independence, the series is an opportune time to engage the public on the past and future of health care in the small island.

“Disease and health have always shaped the development of the island and its people and even in 2015 we continue to face mounting health challenges as we seek to provide quality health services for all Barbadians even within a limited economic environment,” she said this morning during the launch of the series.
