Lady Haynes takes Senate oath

FORMER BARBADOS HIV/AIDS CZAR Carol Lady Haynes took her seat in the Senate today for the first time.

The Independent senator, whose professional title is Dr Carol Jacobs, replaces former Senator Tony Marshall, recently appointed Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations office in New York.

Lady Haynes, wife of late surgeon and former Government Minister Richie Haynes, was welcomed by Independent, Government and Opposition senators.

In welcoming Lady Haynes, Leader of the Senate Maxine McClean spoke of her “commitment and dedication to public service” and her outstanding work in the field of HIV/AIDS. (TY)
