WI bats flop

PERTH – It seemed like the 1983 World Cup final all over again. But it wasn’t to be the sweet revenge the West Indies wanted, and captain Jason Holder is chiding his batsmen for another poor performance at this year’s tournament.

When the West Indies limped to 182, memories of them chasing a similar target against the same country, India, at the third World Cup in 1983 were evident. Of course, the West Indies, on this occasion set the target and yesterday they defended it fairly admirably, but ultimately India got home by four wickets to book their place in the quarter-finals.

West Indies, meanwhile, are far from certain to advance from the group, having won just two of their five matches.
