A big crowd, pomp and pageantry and fleeting hooves that caused lots of hearts to race with the pace characterised the 34th running of the Gold Cup at the Garrison Savannah yesterday.
Stands filled quickly and fans eager to get a close-up of Barbados’ premier horse race stood five and six deep at the rails adding to the rainbow of colour that was the Garrison Savannah. Children frolicked in the jumping tents and at other amusement points on the inner pasture; punters’ attention was fixed on other games of chance on the pasture, and food stalls did a brisk trade on and around the grounds.
