‘Help women to the top’

A Government minister is urging better support for women in politics.

On a day to honour women, Minister of Social Care and Constituency Empowerment Steve Blackett, speaking after a service at Ellerton Wesleyan Holiness Church in St George, praised the work of women in both the ruling Democratic Labour Party (DLP) and the Opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP).

The theme of the celebratory service was: Women Who Made It Happen In Barbados.

While using International Women’s Day yesterday to highlight the tremendous strides women had made, Blackett maintained that if they were to progress to higher political office, they needed the support not only of the public, but also their male colleagues.
