THE MAN who was first given the mandate to police the problem plagued CLICO company says there’s a worrying sign in the society that once you are affiliated with a political group, you can get away with anything.

Retired permanent secretary William Layne made the comment while declaring there was nothing surprising about the revelations of last week’s unsealing of the forensic audit report on CLICO.

“What surprised me is that people would try to block its [report] publication when public interest would dictate that something like this should receive full disclosure,” he said.

Layne, who headed the Oversight Committee, set up by late Prime Minister David Thompson to look into CLICO’s affairs, said the delaying with the beleaguered insurance company was also sending the wrong signal to the country.
