$18m for Customs, BRA merger

GOVERNMENT IS PUSHING ahead with its plan to merge the Customs and Excise Department into the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA).

Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler said with this major revenue-earning department incorporated into the BRA, it would complete Government’s plan for a single ICT platform
from which Government could better manage state receipts.

He told the House of Assembly yesterday during the Estimates debate that about $18 million had been provided to help integrate the Customs Department into the BRA.

He added that the administration was also moving ahead with plans to reform a number of state enterprises. (GE)
