MINISTER of FINANCE Chris Sinckler is pleading with civil servants who are rushing to apply for early retirement, because of wild rumours, to take back those applications.

Speaking during debate yesterday in the House of Assembly on the Appropriation Bill, commonly referred to as the Estimates, he said civil servants were reportedly applying in large numbers for retirement in order to access their pensions and gratuity.

According to the St Michael North West MP, the action of civil servants was based on rumours being spread by people who wanted to undermine the Freundel Stuart Government and destabilise the country by suggesting that Government planned to tax pensions and gratuities of civil servants.

Sinckler did not state how many applications the administration had received for early retirement. (GE)
