‘Don’t Delay’

LAWYERS REPRESENTING the family of 57-year-old Selwyn Knight, who was killed last Sunday morning by an off-duty police constable, have called for speedy public disclosure about the tragedy.

“We would like the police to tell us whether or not the matter will be dealt with as a criminal matter and whether there is any criminal liability they will be pursuing in terms of the person who fired the shots,” attorney at law Andrew Pilgrim QC told the DAILY NATION yesterday.

“At this stage, if any other person in the country other than a police officer had fired those shots, you would expect there would be a clear criminal investigation going on as opposed to hear somebody is going on leave.

“A man is dead and another man is shot in his back. It is unacceptable to say, ‘Oh well, a man is going on leave and we are doing an investigation’. It sounds too much like if the matter is not being given full priority,” Pilgrim, who is heading a team of lawyers, added. (TS)
