MPS told to calm down

THE CONDUCT of parliamentarians came into sharp focus on Wednesday, after Chairman of Committees in the House of Assembly, James Paul, was forced to pause proceedings and ask members to control and improve their behaviour.

Ironically, the chairman’s tongue-lashing came as Santia Bradshaw, leader of business for the Opposition Barbados Labour Party, was on her feet expressing her concern about the public perception of how MPs behaved in the House of Assembly.

Bradshaw, the Member of Parliament for St Michael South East, had started her presentation on tertiary education in Barbados, by recording her concern about behaviour in the Lower House coming from honourable members.estimates-2015

The former senator said she had heard a local radio announcer question the behaviour of some members based on what was heard on the radio, and she too was concerned about what reflection such actions could have on the young people of Barbados. (BA)
