Popularity a critical factor

THE ACCOMPANYING table and charts consolidate data relating to the key indicator “Preferred Prime Minister” which is based on a single open-ended question that has traditionally been included in all CADRES public opinion polls.

This question has always generated keen interest since it invariably helps to explain the level of support that a political party receives in the most proximate general election.

There are a few critical observations that can be made regarding the current leading personalities in the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) and Democratic Labour Party (DLP).

Mia Mottley is now the preferred leader with her best numbers ever, having come closest to this mark in the May and September 2012 polls, which were taken at a time when she was not leading the BLP and was also not most popular nationally.
