DEAR CHRISTINE, Both my husband and I are in our thirties. We have been married for ten years but he has had quite a number of affairs since our marriage – four (that I know of).
This breaks my heart a lot. Due to my love for him, I have forgiven him each time. Yes, what he has done hurts tremendously but I love my husband and our two children.
He has told me on more than one occasion that he does not love these women but that “things happen” when they throw themselves at him.
Is there a way at all that this problem of repeated infidelity can stop? I wonder if there are other women out there who have been through or are going through what I have and continue to.
– TP
Dear TP
I am sure there are and I’ll be willing to hear their stories as well.
What your husband is doing is serious. In these days of rising sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and HIV/AIDS, both you, he and the women that he messes around with are exposed to contracting STDs of any kind.
How can he claim to love you yet have all these affairs even after you both sat down, discussed his infidelity and you forgave him?
You can see if he’ll agree to see a marriage counsellor or a psychologist. I can only recommend professional counselling at this stage.
However, if he realises you are content to live with his infidelity, he will continue to disrespect you and the affairs will continue.
– CHRISTINE
