Fee hike soon

AFTER 20 YEARS of paying $20 per week for children to attend Government-operated day nurseries, the fees are being increased.

Chairman of the Child Care Board, Ken Knight, confirmed yesterday that they were reviewing the fees and would be implementing a “sliding scale” of between $40 to $80 depending on what parents could afford to pay.

Last month, parents and guardians were informed by way of letter that the board was reviewing the fees. It also advised that “in order to complete this review, the Child Care Board is kindly requesting that you submit a job letter outlining your occupation/post and the salary/wage paid to you”.

However, an irate letter writer to the Nation called the request “horrendous”.
