Spotlight on autism

THE ROTARY CLUB of Barbados will be holding a seminar later this month to raise awareness of autism.

The disorder is far more prevalent than most people realise, and parents in Barbados need real help and support so the club, in conjunction with Globe Finance, will be bringing together various players in the field on May 18 in the Cave Hill School of Business.

The seminar is entitled Impacting Autism Through Early Intervention.

At a media conference yesterday to announce the event, club president Alex McDonald said the disorder was close to their heart.

“At the start of our Rotary year in July 2014, the district governor challenged the rotary clubs in district 7030 . . . to champion the autistic child. We found out his son is autistic and through him, we started to do research only to find within our own club, there were people dealing with the same challenge. (CA)
