Union takes stand on customs officers

APPOINT THEM FIRST.

This is what the Unity trade union wants for acting Customs officers who may be transferred to the Barbados Revenue Authority under which the Customs Department will fall from July 1.

Caswell Franklyn, general secretary of Unity, said he was prepared to seek legal redress on the issue after 60 customs officers turned out to a meeting with his union last week, with 28 of them signing up for membership.

Franklyn will be approaching the Ministry of Civil Service to let them know of his union’s interest in the matter.
