​General strike a BWU option

ONE BIG STRIKE.

That is an option that Toni Moore, the general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), warned yesterday would be considered if progress was not made to settle simmering disputes with Government and several businesses.

To tackle issues “at boiling point” across several sectors, the unionist raised the possibility of a series of industrial actions but also told journalists a general strike could be an option to settle disputes with the Barbados Light & Power Company Ltd, the security business G4S, construction company Preconco Limited, Sandy Lane Hotel and Government over the planned transfer of Customs guards to the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) and financial services providers.
