NEW PRESIDENT of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados (ICAB), Lisa Padmore, has promised not to shy away from continuing to voice ICAB’s opinion on matters of national importance.
“In terms of my agenda, it would be to continue the work of my predecessor, which is improving the corporate governance of our institute and rolling out the strategic plan that was approved by the last Council. As a member of the Barbados Private Sector Association, ICAB will also continue to provide our perspectives on matters of importance to our members and the wider community,” said Padmore after assuming the presidency at the ICAB annual general meeting, held on the evening of May 28 at the Hilton Barbados, Needham’s Point, St Michael.
One such opinion put forward by past president Roger Arthur, which Padmore intends to continue to promote, is a call for government to adopt fiscal rules that would set targets and limits for its revenue and expenditure. Padmore said such rules would go a long way toward helping government to reduce its deficit, align its revenue collection efforts with its expenditure, and ultimately present a more balanced budget.
Padmore, who is a partner for assurance at Ernst & Young in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, will be leading the affairs of ICAB for the next year along with a council comprising immediate past president Arthur; vice president Andrew Brathwaite; treasurer Rueben Blenman; secretary Lois Jones; and members Betty Brathwaite, Bruce McClean, Gregory Cummings, Hanif Patel, Wayne Lovell, Karol Ashby, David Simpson, Lisa Alleyne, and Patrick Hinkson.
Padmore, who is the fourth female president of ICAB in its 40 year history, is a 1998 Barbados Scholar and holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting/Management Information Systems from McGill University in Canada. She is also a Fellow of the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada and a member of several ministries in Christ the King Anglican Church. (PR)
