MUSIC HAS BEEN PROVEN to improve the academic performance of children as well as raise their self-confidence and discipline.

In this regard, the Multi-National Fair Goes Green in conjunction with the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation raised $100 000 to be used to purchase brass and wind musical instruments, in turn to be distributed among six primary schools – Charles F Broome; Lawrence T. Gay; Wesley Hall Primary; Hilda Skeene; West Terrace and St George.

The cheque donation was made yesterday at Charles F Broome after morning assembly. Fair organising committee member Sharen Lady Carmichael spoke of the importance of music in schools from an early age.

“Playing an instrument stimulates every centre in your brain and a lot of people don’t know that. Countries where this part of the curriculum is developed, the children are seen to do much, much better educationally so we want everyone in Barbados to realise that and come on board,” she said. (CA)
