SEVENTY–THREE WORKERS GONE – with 15 more to go.
That’s the latest twist in the Barbados Light & Power’s (BL&P) quest to cut $30 million over the next two years, which has put it in conflict with the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU).
In a letter dated May 22 and signed by Roger Babooram, the human resources (hr) manager, the company told the BWU that 15 jobs must go from Customer Services, Distribution, Generation and the HR department.
Listed to go are three HR assistants and three electrical technicians; two linesmen; and a customer services field representative, a field service clerk, a cashier clerk, a customer information representative, a plant inspector, a substation technician, and a control room operator.
