ANOTHER BOARDWALK is in the offing for Barbados as the country continues to protect its coastline from the ravages of climate change.

Acting deputy director of the Coastal Zone Management Unit (CZMU), Fabian Hinds, disclosed this as he took the media on a tour of some beaches to mark World Environment Day yesterday.

Hinds said the boardwalk could be coming to the South Coast: from Rockley Beach to St Lawrence in Christ Church with a function similar to that of the Richard Haynes Boardwalk at Hastings, which was a protective coastal structure that took into account climate change projections and sea level rise projections in the design.

Hinds also referred to other beaches at Welches, Christ Church, where the sea ran into the road. He said the CZMU’s work there offered some level of protection and the road’s vulnerability was reduced. (LK)
