AN ANGLICAN CLERIC is hoping that the coming Foreday Morning jump-up won’t be another case of parents, including many mothers, going off to revel and leaving their children unattended at home.

Reverend John Rogers, rector of St George’s Parish Church, raised the issue in a sermon yesterday during a service attended by members of the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) marking the start of the annual hurricane season.

He said this had been a problem last year and he was now wondering how many children would be left alone at home this year “while mummy goes to jump”.

“Last year there was a challenge that was voiced that there were some children at home alone during the Foreday Morning festivities because they were left in the house sleeping while their mums or their parents went out to fete and . . . that is a dangerous thing,” he told the DAILY NATION afterwards.
