BARBADOS’ PREPARATIONS for tomorrow’s return leg of their second round World Cup football qualifier against Aruba at the Usain Bolt Complex have suffered a setback with airline travel problems delaying the team’s return home.
After logging a telling 2-0 victory in the away leg on Wednesday in Oranjestad, the players endured a six-hour delay and missed their connecting flight from Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday night.
Only English-based captain Emmerson Boyce and rookie midfielder Rashad Jules, who had to attend the funeral of a relative, managed to secure an early flight into Barbados yesterday.
The others, as well as coaching staff, were stranded in Trinidad and Tobago as they desperately sought other flights late yesterday, resulting in the team being unable to have a full training session as scheduled.
