School year ends July 2 for students

PUBLIC SCHOOLS will close for the summer holiday next week.

The last day of school for students will be Thursday, July 2, while teachers will proceed on vacation after Friday, July 3.

Nine weeks have been allocated for the 2015 summer holidays, following which the school year 2015-2016 will begin for teachers with a planning week from Tuesday, September 1 to Friday, September 4.

Students will return to the classroom on Monday, September 7.

According to the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, there will be 38 weeks of instruction for the new academic year.

The Michaelmas term (Term I) will run for 14 weeks ending, for students on Thursday, December 10, 2015  and for teachers on Friday, December 11, 2015.

During this term, there will be Teachers’ Professional Day, occurring on Friday, October 16.

The Hilary Term (Term II), which starts at the beginning of 2016, will be for 12 weeks, beginning Monday, January 4, for teachers and Tuesday, January 5, for students. The term will end on Thursday, March 24, and Friday, March 25, for students and teachers respectively.

Term III, also called the Trinity Term, will last for 12 weeks. Teachers will begin on Monday, April 11, while students will be back in the classroom on Tuesday, April 12. The term ends on Thursday, June 30, for students and Friday, July 1, for educators. (BGIS)
