CAPTAIN CHRIS GAYLE stroked a magnificent 90 not out off 36 balls to lead Jamaica Tallawahs to a ten-wicket victory over St Lucia Zouks tonight in the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 cricket tournament.
Chasing 119 for victory, Tallawahs raced to 121 without loss in just ten overs, consigning Zouks to defeat in their final match this season at Beausejour Stadium.
Gayle did not spare any of the bowlers, but the final over off Liam Sebastien – who replaced injured Eddie Leie – was particularly punishing.
At that point, Tallawahs were 98 without loss, needing 21 more runs. Gayle took 23 runs – three sixes and a four to bring up the victory. Partner Chadwick Walton scored a run-a-ball 25.
Earlier, Zouks stuttered to 118 for nine. They got starts from Johnson Charles (29) and Kevin Pietersen (26) but no one really got going. Rusty Theron took three wickets for 19 runs and Krishmar Santokie three for 24.
Summarised scores:
St Lucia Zouks 118-9 in 20 overs (Johnson Charles 29, Kevin Pietersen 26, Andre Fletcher 14, Kyle Mayers 13, Henry Davids 10, Fidel Edwards 10 n.o.; Rusty Theron 3-19, Krishmar Santokie 3-24, Jerome Taylor 2-17). Jamaica Tallawahs 121-0 in 10 overs (Chris Gayle 90 n.o., Chadwick Walton 25 n.o.). Tallawahs won by ten wickets.
