THERE WILL BE Pan American Games heartbreak for some Bajan athletes who had met the standards set by the Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) and were actually selected to make the trip to Canada next month.
The AAB’s benchmark was the same set originally by the Pan American Games administrators.
Very reliable sources told SUNSPORT five athletes from the original 18 selected by the AAB will now be staying home.
This follows communication from meet organisers, who are concerned about quotas.
SUNSPORT understands that this is the direction global track and field is going as organisers look at more cost-effective ways of managing numbers at events.
