PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL UNION OF PUBLIC WORKERS Akanni McDowall does not see any harm in meeting Minister of Commerce Donville Inniss to discuss the current impasse between his union and the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC), over the severing of staff.
The executive council of the NUPW is expected to meet tomorrow to discuss its next move after ten staffers were sent on early retirement at age 60 and two from the IT department severed. The union has threatened a national shutdown over the issue.
McDowall told the DAILY NATION yesterday that the union’s position that the letters be withdrawn still stood, “so that those people can go back to work as soon as possible”.
“I don’t see any harm in meeting with the minister. Our position still is the same. Those letters need to be withdrawn so that those people can get back to work as soon as possible. (JS)
