Plea to CARICOM heads

DEAR MR CHAIRMAN, Honourable Fruendel Stuart, and distinguished Caricom Heads of Government, on behalf of Prayer Warriors International we extend a very warm and cordial welcome to you and your delegates to Barbados on the occasion of your 36th Heads of Government meeting.

We are praying that all goes well and productive.

For the past seven years we have conducted a Caribbean Day of Prayer annually on March 4, labelled as March Forth (4th) On Our Knees. On that day we have visited schools, “the block”, print and electronic media houses, businesses and ports of entry into the country, to pray for and with them. We have even set up a website, praying for the Caribbean heads of governments.

I recall clearly the clarion call during the early 1990s, when countries in the Middle East were poised on the brink of war; and what was splashed across the leading papers in the United States and around the world: “Only Prayer Can Help”. This acknowledgement and call came after some of the world’s most powerful leaders met for days at the United Nations.

We are also reminded of the Queen of Scotland who said: “She feared the prayers of John Knox, more than all the armies of England.”

Scriptures

The scriptures boldly proclaim and admonish us that “righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people”, and further instruct that “blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord”. Ladies and gentlemen, I wish to respectfully suggest that the most powerful weaponry that can be used against any crises or challenge is prayer.

I am sure you will agree that we face many challenges and crises in our respective countries. Being cognisant of these maladies, I have written to your secretariat in Guyana, on more than one occasion, and have indeed written some of you personally, requesting that March 4 annually be officially observed as Caribbean Day of Prayer.

Over the years, I have also written to hundreds of church leaders and churches across the Caribbean, soliciting their blessings, participation, prayers and support for this Caribbean Day of Prayer.

I once more make that clarion call and appeal publicly to your body. We will continue to pray for you, your families, your people and your governments. We prayerfully thank you for your consideration and support.
