INTENSE EFFORTS are under way to settle the industrial dispute between the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) and the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC).

Minister of Labour Dr Esther Byer, who met both sides separately yesterday, will bring them together today in an effort to resolve the three-week-long impasse, which has resulted in three days of industrial action so far.

However, the NUPW said the non-collection of garbage by Sanitation Service Authority workers would continue, though it has told cemetery staff to return to work to allow burials at public cemeteries to resume after cancellations yesterday.
