A NEW-LOOK cosmopolitan Sagicor UWI unit without many stars and just three Bajans still shone by adopting the old winning formula of self-belief under the guidance of veteran coach-player and captain Floyd Reifer.
Friday night’s routine nine-run victory over ESA Field Pickwick in a low-scoring Sagicor General Twenty20 cricket final at Kensington Oval for a record third T20 title in the tournament’s eight-year history followed the same successful script of as their triumphs in 2012 and 2013.
Sent in, UWI were restricted to a modest 119 for seven in their 20 overs by generally economical bowling from Pickwick, led by off-spinner Raymond Bynoe’s top-order triple strike.
But left-arm spinners Kavem Hodge (2-9) and new recruit Ryan Hinds (3-18) spearheaded UWI’s admirable defence of their score to limit their opponents to 110 for eight.
