BARBADOS IS one step closer to a national shutdown this week as both the Customs and the Immigration departments have been officially joined in the National Union of Public Workers’ (NUPW) protest action.
After more than three hours of meetings yesterday with hundreds of its members – taken from the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA), Ministry of Health, Customs, Immigration and more – at its Dalkeith, St Michael headquarters, NUPW acting general secretary Roslyn Smith told the media what the next step was going to be.
“We had our general meeting today, the focus of which was to update the workers of the meeting with the Minister of Labour [Senator Dr Esther Byer] and to discuss the way forward. Phase 3 is expected to take place shortly.
