No pay for strikers

STRIKE AND YOU will not be paid.

That was what all public workers would have faced had they walked off their jobs this week to participate in protest action in support of their trade unions.

And this is not a directive from the Freundel Stuart regime. Rather, it is part of the conditions of service of all public workers.

According to the Code of Conduct and Ethics in the Public Service Act, 2007-41 as amended by Public Service (Amendment) Act, 2010-1, “officers shall not be paid for any day or portion of a day during which they are on strike”.
