DEAR CHRISTINE: Depressed over home situation

Date:

Share post:

Dear Christine,

FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS, my husband has been constantly picking fights over the littlest of things.

We have been married for ten years. I have been called all kinds of names and my home situation has been causing me headaches. My depression is taking its toll on me but my husband does not believe in antidepressants and has told me not to take them. Many nights I cry myself to sleep.

My children are not taking it easy, based on the relationship between me and my husband, who has also threatened to fight for their custody if I leave him.

I have asked him to go to counselling and even offered to pay from my salary but he has refused.

Christine, I do not live in your country but I get to read your column online. Please give me some advice.

Dear LP,

I am quite taken back that you are allowing your husband to stop you from seeing a doctor and taking medication which can be of help to you. Visit the doctor. Surely, you do not need his permission to do so. After that visit and advice from your doctor, you’ll be in a better position  to know the next step to take.

Regarding the threat to take away your children, you should consult what would be the equivalent of a “Government child care organisation” to discuss your situation and your husband’s threats.

Wise up! Get a medical evaluation and follow your physician’s advice.
